Notice to Members: We are looking for new members and club professional , Leslie Robinson is running classes to try to introduce people to golf. If you know someone who may be interested please ask her/him to contact Leslie 074 9734054 or 086 8235448.

Dates are: Tuesday 22nd May ,Tuesday 29th May ,Tuesday 5th June and Tuesday 12th June.

Time 7pm to 8pm.

Total cost for the four lessons is only 20 euro and clubs will be provided.

The Harbour Restaurant was the sponsor for this Sundays competition that was played in very difficult conditions, which was reflected in the number of entrants who completed the course. Donal Cannon handled the conditions best on the day to win this competition. In second place was Liam Cassidy, he was followed in third place by Peter McDonnell, with Michael “D” Gallagher in fourth place on a bot. The gross prize was won again by Darren Rafferty.

Results.1st Donal Cannon (19) 29 points, 2nd Liam Cassidy (20) 27 points, 3rd Peter Mc Donnell (20) 26 points, bot. Gross Darren Rafferty (3) 24 points 4th Michael “D” Gallagher (7) 26 points.

There were three teams out this weekend, Ulster Fourball, at home for the return leg, had just a wee bit too much to do after the first leg and were narrowly defeated by Edenmore. John McCafferty took his Pierce Purcell team to the qualifiers in Fintona, and he will not be costing the club any more expenses this year. The Ulster Cup team were in Killymoon where they got one match, return match Sunday week. Next Saturday the Donegal League team are at home to Buncrana, and the Minor League team are away to Cloghaneely, best of luck to all.

Club Professional Leslie Robinson is offering lessons to anyone interested in taking up the game beginning on Tuesday evening 22nd June from 7pm to 8pm and running for the following three Tuesdays, all for a cost of €20.00. Clubs will be provided.

Sunday 20th May Donegal hosts the regional Senior Cup qualifiers and the course is closed all day.

Thursday Specials : Due to the unseasonable cold and wet weather this week’s competition was reduced to a nine hole competition, 26 players braved the conditions. The winner was Andy McLaren with 22pts in a round which included a birdie 2 on the 5^th hole to win golf balls in addition to the 1^st prize. William Timoney was 2^nd with 20pts on a break of tie from our Chairman Raymond Nolan with 20pts.

The Draw has been made for the Phoenix Cup and it is on display in the locker room.

The stroke competition played on 6th/8th May and sponsored by Dom’s Peir One was won by Beatrice Lawless (23) 71.
Well done Beatrice, hope this is the beginning of a good summer for you. 2nd. was the evergreen Doreen Browne(24) 74.
3rd Kathleen Fox(21) 75 BOT, 4th Margaret Neilan(36) 75 BOT.
The front 9 was won by Maureen McCormack(21) 37.5 and the back 9 by Brenie Treacy (18) 37.

The 9 hole competition was won by Margaret Neilan(36) 20pts. 2nd was Anne Marie McCormick(36) 18pts.

The Super Valu sponsored competition played on the 29th. April/1st. May was won by Mary Walsh playing off 19 with 38pts. Mary is playing some stunning golf with results to prove it. With 2 first places and 2 second places and a minor place in the last 2 months,
the Donegal teacher is forging an early lead in the contest for golfer of the year.
2nd was Margaret Neilan(36) with 36pts. 3rd. Mary Gillen(28) 34pts. BOT 4th Mary T Martin (35)34pts.BOT

The front 9 was won by Mary McGonigle (13) 20pts. and the back 9 by Kathleen Fox (21) 18pts.
The 9 hole competition was won by Mary Harley(21) 19pts. with in 2nd. place Ursula Miller( 20) 18pts.

The eagerly awaited Little Bullet match against local rivals Bundoran took place on the 2nd. May at Donegal golf club. There was a good turn out of ladies eager to compete for top honours in the keenly fought contest.The match was played on one of the warmest days of the year with scoring equally as hot as the weather.

Donegals Tracey Clarke (27) posted a magnificent score of 43points to take the overall prize. Tracy was backed by good scores from Mary Walsh(18) 39pts. Mary McGonigle(13) 36pts. Margaret Buckley(26) 35pts. and Maureen McKean(23) 34pts.
These 5 ladies total score of 187was enough to beat Bundoran by 5 points to take the Little bullet. Bundorans scoring team where Caitlin McInerney (22) 40pts. Kathleen Forkin(36) 36pts. Kay McGowen(23) 36pts. Kathleen O’Neill(28) 35pts.and Anne Sweeney(32) 35pts.
Lady Captain Marie McGarvey was in the clubhouse to congratulate both teams and to collect the trophy.

May Bank Holiday weekend competition was played over Sunday and Monday and was sponsored by Dom’s Bar & Restaurant. The clear winner over the two days was Paddy Woods who returned a great score of 44 points, he was followed in second place by Jason Conway with 41 points. Paddy O Reilly was third with 40 points and fourth place went to Des Daly with 39 points. Gross prize went to Darren Rafferty with 39 points.Results. 1st Paddy Woods (15) 44 points, 2nd Jason Conway (11) 41 points, 3rd Paddy O Reilly (19) 40 points, Gross Darren Rafferty (4) 39 points, 4th Des Daly (16) 39 points.

Colm Campbell’s, Jimmy Bruen team travelled to Omagh on Sunday, where they missed out on qualifying. Our Ulster Fourball team, under Captain Mc Ginty were in Edenmore, where they got one match, the return leg is at home this Saturday, where there is a bit of work to be done.Pierce Purcell qualifying is on in Fintona next Sunday, where John Mc Cafferty is hopeful that his team will progress.

The Alzheimer’s Classic is on this Friday11th and there a still a few slots left. Next Sunday’s competition is sponsored by The Harbour Restaurant.

Senior Cup qualifying is on Sunday 20th May and there will be no club competition on that day, but there is a club competition on Saturday19th off the Green Markers.

Thursday Specials : This weeks winner with an excellent 36pts was Dominic Quinn, 2nd place went to Francis Cassidy with 35pts on a bot from the man in form Kevin Martin who may already have one hand on the player of the year trophy although 4th place Garry Prendiville with 34pts (and no shots lost) may have a something to say about that. Ciaran Cassidy won the prize for the 1st 9 with 22pts and the prize for the best past member went to Michael ‘D’ Gallagher with 33pts.

A sheet is currently on display in the locker room for the Phoenix Cup, draw will be made on Thursday 10th May.
