Originally designed by Eddie Hackett and later developed by Pat Ruddy, Murvagh is now being further enhanced by Paul McGinley and McGinley Golf Course Design. A great test of golf! Be prepared to bring a few extra balls if the wind kicks up. Hole 5 (par 3): "Valley of Tears" is true to its name. 😢. The staff is helpful and very friendly.
Played today (Aug 2026) and course was in a top nick. A stiff breeze from the course made this already long course even longer, even off the greens. It’s a course for lower handicaps otherwise the length and density of rough (although fair) will punish. Had a really enjoyable experience and bar food was as good Iv ever had in a golf club.
Great experience great golf! The pro had our rental sets waiting for us when we got there and all the staff we met were very nice and accommodating. The course was a lot of fun and beautiful county! We had a great caddy Mike and would recommend taking a caddy out as there are some blind shots. Mike made the whole experience that much better.
Super golf course. Highly recommend. Some classic links holes. A must if in the area. It was windy and the golf we played was bad but did not distract from a great day. Lovley food in the clubhouse afterwards. Staff were great. Met the designer himself Paul McGinley. Recommend for all levels
Lovely course, with some beautiful scenery. We traveled across from Liverpool and on our arrival the pro came and greeted us and made us feel really welcome, sorted some balls for the range, everyone at Donegal was really friendly and welcoming. I will just say one last thing stay out of the rough 😉
Gorgeous course with views of the green and pleasant land, the beautiful rolling Hills all around and shot making holes where you really appreciate your caddie. Tommy was carrying for me and he was just great without him I’d be lost. Love when he points out the terrain that you might miss sloping one way or the other and if you don’t stay left or right, you’ll be funneled off into some trouble and likewise the other way around you’ll be funneled into a good place especially that secret part five that’s a blind shot . Oh, and then there’s the reading of the greens which kind of reminds me of those old western movies of the Indian Scout, who could track people yeah boy would that take a long time to figure out without Local knowledge or Tommy the caddie. Ah the links are wicked. And there’s always some wind so it’s great to hit a low shot when you need it And there’s one hole with a bunker in the middle of the Green like Riviera Hearing about the course record recently set at 66 makes you wonder how hard it is even for the pros because they’ve all played here. Plus you get to go the the crazy pub McCaffertys in Donegal town with I lost count how many rooms. And staying in the heart of town but a block away from the hustle and bustle at Ros Dun House is a great pleasure comfy homey.
Played it on the Saturday and the Sunday two weekends ago. What a fabulous links course. Great scenery. Fairways and greens in brilliant order. A great test of golf. The rough is a little difficult so it is advisable to stay on the fairway as much as possible. Definitely worth a visit.

The course was in immaculate condition and played true. Definitely one for the books!!
Great winter option. Played the front 9 for €30. Pro shop well stocked with nice gear. The 8th hole a highlight. Need another go at that one! Lovely clubhouse in immaculate shape
I’m so glad I dragged myself out the morning after a wedding to make this tee time. Donegal is an incredible true links course with dramatic views, challenging holes, and the feeling of getting all four seasons in a single round. The staff were attentive and welcoming from arrival through the 18th, and the post-round Guinness in the clubhouse was a perfect way to finish. A fantastic, memorable day out in nature and well worth it.

What a great course. Not to be missed if playing in the northwest. One of the most warm welcomes I have had. From the pro shop to the member and the bar (great Guinness) everyone was kind and genuinely happy to have you at the club. The front nine holes 5-9 is one of the best stretches I have played. Ocean views, exposure to the elements. And firm and fast conditions. This is links golf. Run don’t walk to Murvagh.
Toughest test of golf you will get in any links depending on weather, a must visit for any decent golfer.

A classic links course that checks all the criteria for the palate of a golf aficionado taste. Paul McGinley is involved with some design tweaks that are impressive. The GM, Lynn McCool runs a tight operation with first class aplomb. Staff are friendly and professional. A must for a true lover of golf.
Visited the club on my birthday and was warmly welcomed. A wonderful corse and perfectly organised and compliments for the green keeping, the restaurant and the reception. Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing. From the second we got out of our car the welcome was second to none and extremely genuine also. We were looked after superbly by club members and even were introduced to the club captain and president who were extremely proud and humble when speaking about their incredible hidden gem of a golf course. I couldn't speak highly enough of it and will definitely be returning.
Great course we had a small bit of wind and played off the back sticks so long and challenging enough but a great day out.. Beautiful condition greens were the best we played on..

Great surprise: by chance we were invited to play this beautiful course. The caddymaster made space for us and the Club President himself greeted us at the first tee! Very friendly and welcoming: thank you 🙏🏻! Unique: a rabbit was in his hole in a greenside bunker! 🐇 Challenging course.
If your a golfer and you want to enjoy a top quality and a reasonable priced golf experience. This is up there with the best links course in Ireland . I played this course the day after a major storm & I could not fault the quality of the course . The views of the surrounding lands and sea shore were amazing. Ever hole played had its challenge and could be talked about as an memory to return . Prepare for a great golf challenge. Cant wait to have another go at this experience.
