Spring League 2026.... are you Ready?
| The 2026 Spring League is due to begin on Sunday 25th January. The League will be team based and will be played on a weekly basis over 9 holes. Each team will have 4 scores to count per week, and only these scores will be posted on the Notice Board. Please make sure that you have your name entered before next Tuesday evening - that's Tuesday 20th January - as the Draw for teams will be made on Wednesday 21st. There is a Sign-Up Sheet in the Ladies' Locker Room for you. But, if you are not up in the Club, please contact the shop to have your name put up in good time. We encourage everyone who can to sign up. The Spring League will continue until early March and will finish just in time for the Drive-In. |

Christmas Cracker 2025
| A fantastic day was enjoyed by the Ladies Club on Saturday 6th December, beginning with a four ball scramble over nine holes. Conditions proved difficult, but congratulations to all the players and well done in coming in with some incredible scores. The winning team of Miriam Bennett, Donna Martin, Audrey Johnston and Anne Murray posted a tremendous score of 30. Congratulations to the winning team. Also presented on the day were the winning team in the Winter League - The Super Strikers, as well as the winners of the Birdie prize for the year - The 9 hole birdie winner was Anne Duke and the 18 hole birdie winner was Geraldine Breslin.
A delicious festive meal was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Mario and his team.
There followed gift giving, as the theme was Friendship and Kindness and we were delighted to welcome our friends in the Donegal Abbey Singers who came up to entertain us.
Thanks to everyone who one who made the day memorable and enjoyable.

| The North West League Round Robin Matchplay contined in Donegal GC, Murvagh, on Saturday 26th July, with the Donegal Ladies welcoming Foyle GC for the return Match. The team of Margaret Hynes, Eileen O'Donnell, Annette Britton Myers, Claire Cassidy and Caroline Gillespie played their hearts out in extremely windy conditions and came away with four matches on the day, winning the tie overall. The "Little Bullet" Donegal Vs Bundoran 2025
| The annual "Little Bullet" between the ladies of Donegal and Bundoran Golf Clubs was played for on Thursday last, 29th May. This year the Bullet was held at Donegal Golf Club. Weather conditions were difficult so congratulations to all those who braved the elements and brought in the scores. Bundoran GC were victorious and brought the Bullet home.

| The Intermediate Foursomes match, played against Enniskillen, took place on Wednesday 21st May, with Mary Walsh/Ger Breslin and Helen O'Shea/Eithne Devlin as the Home Team and Rosemary Carr/Miriam Bennett and Ger Gorman/Clare Paasch as the Away Team. The Home Team won their matches with the Away Team losing out, resulting in a Play-Off played in Murvagh, as Donegal GC had the Home Advantage. Helen O'Shea and Eithne Devlin headed down the first and won the match on the first hole with a great putt by Helen.
The next round will be played against Co. Cavan Golf Club. |

North West League Matchplay 2025
| We are now looking for expressions of interest from any lady who would like to be part of a panel for the Donegal Golf Club North West League team. Matches will be played over the summer months beginning in June. We hope to have a panel in place in the next couple of weeks to begin preparations.
The League is run on a round robin type basis, where initially each club will have three fixtures, each of these played home and away. There will be a team of five for each match and the matches will be single matchplay.
The handicap limits are as follows :- Lowest handicap index 24 to maximum handicap index of 54. However, those playing above 45 handicap index would have to drop down and play off 45.
So, if you feel you have the time and interest in playing this relaxed and friendly Matchplay competition, please add your name to the sheet on the noticeboard in the locker room, alongside your current handicap index. Closing date : 10th May 2025

| We're all looking forward to Saturday coming.... the Captains' Drive-In ... which signals the beginning of a new year of Golf at Donegal Golf Club. Proceedings begin at 11 with our annual Ecumenical Service, followed by the Drive-In. Then there will be a Greensomes 9 hole competition with a shotgun start, followed by a meal in the clubhouse. The Draw is being made on Thursday evening 27th February, so there's still a little bit of time if you haven't already your name on the list. Just phone in to the Clubhouse.
Sunday/Tuesday competition for next week, the first 18 holes of the year will be a 3 Ball Rumble, so be sure and look for your partners for that. We will still be playing the back nine first and will still be off the fairways until further notice. Enjoy the weekend and all the golf to come. |

| Captain Darren McDaid and Lady Captain Geraldine Giblin look forward to your company for the DRIVE-IN, which marks the start of the Golfing Year for 2025. This will take place on Saturday 1st March. An Ecumenical Service will be held in the Clubhouse at 11 a.m., followed by the Drive Off by the Captains for the year. Spring Chicken Competition continues over the weeks of February
| Storm Ewoyn took its toll last week. Great to be back on the course again. The Spring Chicken Competition Week 2 has begun. Loads of points on offer, so plenty of time to enter now, if you didn't get a chance last week. You can play in the nine hole competition once a week. Just put your name in the book on your first outing, then tick beside your name each week you get to go out. We're playing the back nine holes, using stableford points and using the course handicap. Each week only the top ten scores will receive points ... 10 for 1st place, 9 for second, 8 for third, etc., down to 1 point for 10th. Points will be added on each week. The prizegiving will take place at the Drive-In on 1st March.
Also to remind you that there is an 18 hole Mixed scramble taking place on Sunday 16th February, 10 a.m. shotgun start. Names need to be in by Tuesday 11th and the list for entry is now up in the Locker Room. A draw will be made for partners on Wednesday 11th February. |

AUTUMN INTO WINTER 9 HOLE TEAM EVENT - Expression of Interest List
| As the qualifying competitions come to a close at Halloween, we invite you to sign up for a nine hole non-qualifying Team event. This will be held over 6 weeks to finish on Friday 7th December. The day before the Christmas Cracker.
Teams will be organised once we know the numbers taking part, but these teams will not be revealed. Rather, you will be playing for your team weekly, but will not know who else is on your team until the event is complete. So we will have to wish everyone luck as we take to the fairways!
All instructions re play will be given before play begins and once teams are organised. So we will need your names on the list by Sunday 22nd October.

Following the above competition, an issue was raised re changing the qualifying status during the competition. This competition, Singles V Par, should have been non-qualifying from the start.
As a response, the competition was hence made null and void.
The issue was referred to Golf Ireland and the following advice was received:-
1. The competition should not have been nullified and has thus been reinstated.
2. Cards are not permitted to be entered for General Play as they were entered during a competition.
3. Handicap Committee to review these cards as part of the annual review.
Apologies for any confusion caused.

| The Thursday Specials' Annual Mixed Greensomes will be held on Saturday 26th August 2023. Names are now being sought in both locker rooms for the competition. Ladies are urgently needed as the draw is to be made this week. This is a 15 hole competition played as a Greensomes, where both players drive off before deciding on which ball to use for alternate shots. The handicap allowance will be half the combined club handicaps.

LADIES TEAM NEWS
| Congratulations to Rosemary Carr and Ger Breslin, team captains and their Challenge Cup Team on a tremendous and hard-fought victory over Tandragee Golf Club on Saturday 1st July. There was a long wait on the last match out on the course here at Murvagh, with the matches shared at two apiece. This final match continued on to the 19th, 20th and 21st holes before Edel Nesbitt sealed the victory for the Donegal Golf Club ladies. Well done to everyone involved - players, team captains and caddies. The team now moves on to play Dungannon Golf Club in the Ulster Semi-final in the coming weeks. |

Lady Captain's Day 24th June 2023
| Congratulations to Lady Captain, Mary Harley, on a wonderful Captain's Day. It was a day of fine weather, fine golf and fine celebrations at the Golf Club for all. First to the golf.... and the 18 hole stableford competition, supported by all the ladies. The course was in great condition and thank you to the Lady Captain, Mary, for providing refreshments for the fairways. In the end, it was Monica Doherty's day. With a fantastic score of 39 points, Monica claimed the Captain's prize for 2023. Well done, Monica. A fantastic evening followed in the clubhouse. The gathering enjoyed a delicious three course meal, and enjoyed great camraderie and fun. It was wonderful to welcome Lady Captain, Mary's family to the clubhouse to celebrate with her. Thank you to the chefs, kitchen staff and bar staff for all their attentiveness. Jodie Gallagher provided the music following the presentation.

| A great day's golf and fun was had by the ladies from Donegal and Bundoran golf clubs on Wednesday 24th May as they went head to head for the winning of the "Little Bullet" - an annual get-together for the two clubs.

LADIES' TEAMS
| The Ladies Team events continue. The Minor Cup team were unfortunate to lose their match against Enniskillen on May 14th. A fantastic effort was put in by everyone, players, caddies and managers. In the end it all came down to a putt. It was a trojan effort as the team had three matches away and only two at home. Well done Ladies.
The Mixed Foursomes club team, on May 13th, played their matches against Edenmore. Again, the matches went to the wire with the final match lost on the 18th. A great effort by all.
The Challenge Cup team were given a bye by the County Cavan Golf Club and so move into the next round of the competition. They are preparing, at the moment, for a match against Edenmore. This time, Edenmore will have the home advantage, so Donegal will only have two matches at home and three away.
This coming Sunday, the Revive Active team meet Virginia Golf Club. Virginia have home advantage, so will have three matches there and two in Donegal. The best of luck to all the team, managers and players on Sunday.
The Maire O'Donnell matchplay will be begining in June, so names are now being sought for the panel. There is a list in the Ladies locker room. |

| A fabulous day was add by all on the Club Outing to Portsalon Golf Club yesterday, 22nd April. The weather was perfect and a great welcome was given to the 44 Murvagh ladies who flocked to the north of the county. A fantastic fun-filled round of golf was followed by some time sitting in the sun, before enjoying a beautiful meal in the clubhouse. The entire group was then delighted to cheer on the prize-winners for the day, who had played mighty golf and had brought in wonderful scores. CHALLENGE CUP
The Challenge Cup team, led by Ger Breslin and Rosemary Carr, had a great victory in their first round match played on Saturday 15th April against Bundoran, with three matches at home and two away in Bundoran. They now meet County Cavan Golf Club in the second round. This will be played by 21st May.
MINOR CUP
The Minor Cup team, led by Crona O'Reilly and Rosaleen O Haire, got a bye into the second round, and now meet Enniskillen Golf Club. The match will be played on 14th May, with three matches away and two at home on the day.
REVIVE ACTIVE WOMEN'S FOUR-BALL
The Revive Active team, led by Mary Harley and Patricia Britton, have their first outing against Enniskillen Golf Club on Saturday 29th April, with three matches at home and two away on the day.

A week is Sunday to Saturday.
Entry fee for the competition is 8 Euro
Play once per week and your best 3 cards (aggregated) over the 6 weeks will be counted.
It is a Stableford Competition 9 Holes (now 8)
Enter on the computer on the day of the week you wish to play.
Your sticker will read the date of the Sunday of the week you play. It will also have Week1, Week2 etc for each of the weeks.
Enter your scores on the computer on completion of your round and put your card in the box as normal.
As the 5th hole is closed please enter a 0 on your score for this hole.

| Ladies Informal Stableford competitions will commence on Sunday 16th May and Tuesday 18th May. 4balls permitted, 5euro entry fee, enter as normal. Unless otherwise stated all competitions will run as per the fixture book.
Please note your playing handicap will be printed on your scorecard sticker (your playing handicap is 95 percent of your course handicap). If you are entering manually or if the sticker machine is out of order you MUST ENSURE that your playing handicap is entered on your card. To avoid disqualification you must enter your course handicap also. Please refer to the chart in the locker room.
SILVER AND BRONZE MEDALS
For 2021 the Silver and Bronze medal winners will be determined by 2 competitions as opposed to the usual 3. The window for these competitions is to take place between 7th June and 31st July.
INTERMEDIATE AND CHALLENGE CUP

The twist is you play a Mulligan
Each player will have the opportunity to take a shot again without penalty.
If you hit a bad tee/fairway shot you declare you want to play your Mulligan.
You play from the same spot that you played your previous shot therefore wiping out the previous shot and not count it.
You will need to mark your card to indicate what hole you played your Mulligan and ensure your marker is aware.
Each player is allowed to do this ONCE over the 9 holes only tee and fairway shots are allowed NOT a putt.

WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM SET FOR NOVEMBER LAUNCH
| Some FAQ's from ILGU:
HOW DOES THE NEW SYSTEM WORK?
The new World Handicap System will be averaged based using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY EXISTING PLAYING HISTORY WHEN WHS COMES INTO EFFECT?
The scores you currently have in your record will be transferred to the WHS system and used to calculate your new WHS Handicap Index.
WHEN WILL ALL THIS HAPPEN AND WILL I SEE MY HANDICAP INDEX BEFORE THAT?
November 2nd 2020 is the transition date for GB&I and it is hoped that you will have sight of your Handicap Index in advance.
IS MY HANDICAP GOING TO CHANGE (SIGNIFICANTLY)?
Because of the many variables, such as the number of scores in your record and the slope of the course played, it is not possible to compare your current CONGU exact Handicap with a WHS Handicap Index.
HOW LONG DO MY 20 SCORES LAST ON THE NEW SYSTEM?
The last 20 scores will remain on your record until they are replaced, one by one, by later scores. To maintain an accurate handicap it is recommended that players should return at least 20 scores over a 2 year period.
WILL I BE GIVEN A NEW CDH NUMBER?
No. Your existing CDH / Card number will not change. |

July News
| Ladies competitions commence Sunday 5th/Tuesday 7th July. Our first competition will be an 18 and 9 hole Stableford, both qualifying. Due to Covid 19 and the current timesheet restrictions, competitions can be played in 4 Balls to maintain pace on the course.
You enter the competition in the shop giving your ILGU number 8067.. You will be given your card with a sticker.
Remember to put the name of your marker on your card in BLOCK CAPITALS.
On completion of your round put your card in the correct box in the foyer after you have entered your score via the web site.
For further information on entering competition scores please refer to the e-mail from the Club dated 30th June Temporary Competition Guidelines.
Competition entry fees remain the same and will be used to fund the prizes.
Prizes
The allocation of prizes are as follows
18 hole competition
1st 25
2nd 15
If less than 15 players, we will have a sweep.
9 Hole competition
10 a minimum of 7 players.
All prizes will be Club Shop vouchers.
Handicaps
We are all responsible for our own handicaps. As there will be a delay in closing/publishing competitions we need to put something in place to ensure we play off correct handicaps. If you feel you have a good score on Sunday reduce your handicap by 1 before you play your next competition. (Contact the Handicap Committee if in doubt). Adjust the handicap when signing into Tuesdays competition.
Play out the holes as if on original handicap and write the number of strokes on the card (verbally verified by the Marker). The computer will calculate the score based on adjusted handicap.
Committee will amend handicaps and scores where necessary once Sundays results are calculated on Thursday evenings. Number of strokes cannot be amended. Never increase your handicap.
