2019 Donegal Junior Scratch Matchplay Champions
Congratulations to Oliver Plunkett & his Junior Scratch Matchplay team who defeated Cloughaneely Golf Club on Sunday in Portsalon to defend their title. Matches were nip & tuck for a long time yesterday until they got to the back 9, where Shaun Meehan, Billy Madden & John Meehan took victory in the first 3 matches to give us a good early advantage. Tom Geraghty was narrowly defeated in the 4th match of the day to give Cloughaneely some hope but young Jaden MgBam took control of his match from the 13th, winning 3 holes in row to claim victory on the 15th & seal the title for the club for a 2nd year running. A massive well done to the lads & a thank you to all of the traveling support on the day, great to see so many members making the journey north to cheer the lads on to victory. Team on the day was: Shaun Meehan (1up), Billy Madden (5&4), John Meehan (5&4), Tom Geraghty (2 Dwn), Jaden MgBam (4&3), Oliver Plunkett (Called in), Justin Coughlin (Called in).
North West Seniors 2019 Results
The 2019 North West Seniors took place here in Donegal Golf Club last Wednesday & Thursday (7th & 8th August). Day 1 saw the early starters get the best of the weather as rain moved in as the afternoon progressed. This didn't hamper Justin Coughlin of Donegal or Sean Moyna of Rossmore as they shot a 77 & 80 gross to sit 1st and 2nd overnight respectively. The conditions for day 2 were dramatically better & it was Billy Madden (Donegal GC), who put aside a disappointing day one to shoot a 1 over par 74 (which included a hole in 1 on the par 3 5th) to emerge from the pack & claim victory on a break of tie from over night leader Justin Coughlin, with both men finishing with a total of 158 each. Sean Moyna had to settle for 3rd place in the competition after finishing up with a total of 164 for the 2 days. Congratulations to Billy & to all of the prize winners over the 2 days. Winner (1st Gross) - Billy Madden 158 (bot) 2nd Gross - Justin Coughlin 158 3rd Gross - Sean Moyna 164 1st Nett - Sean McCullagh 75pts 2nd Nett - Eamonn McGuinness 72pts (bot) Day 1 Nett - David Howarth 38pts Day 2 Nett - Michael Hynes 37pts (bot)
